Keep to the Right for Sirens and Lights

Title: Keep to the Right for Sirens and Lights (1/1)
Characters: Michael Scofield, Sara Tancredi
Rating: G, Gen
Length: 138 words (almost a drabble, but not quite)
Author's Notes: A different application of situation in “Scratch and Dent.” The usual disclaimers apply.
Summary: Being careful to follow the rules.

Why did you turn down here? Our street isn't for two more blocks.

There were cops down by the corner -- I saw the lights.

Michael, it's probably just a routine traffic stop -- nothing to do with us.

It hasn't been anything to do with them for years -- since they'd left Chicago, after the final hearings on the conspiracy and the miles of paperwork they'd had to sign, they'd been a textbook example of law abiding. Never exceeding the posted speed limit, signalling for every turn -- they didn’t even stand in the '10 items or less' line with 11 things in their shopping cart. It was as if they'd used up every single piece of luck they were destined to have -- the rest of the game they'd have to play strictly by the rules.
